Look at the survey. 19% of those surveyed are one-man teams. Only 36% are teams of over 100 people. Over half of the respondents are from dev teams of less than 50 people.

The majority of people being surveyed aren't big teams looking to make AAA games for cutting edge tech.

In fact, one third of those surveyed released their last group for mobile. Only 44% released their last game for PS4 and/or Xbox One.

They've released something Zelda related every year since 2013. 2012 didn't have anything, but both 2011 and 2013 had two releases. I think it's safe to say we will get either a remaster, a spinoff, or a new 2D Zelda this year. It would be really unusual if we didn't.

It'll probably be around 60M by the end of next fiscal year. FY 2019 will have Pokemon and Animal Crossing, plus likely a price drop and possibly a hardware revisionm. It'll definitely see YOY growth. To stop at 70M it would have to have sales fall over 50% YOY after that. That's laughably unrealistic.

This is a little off topic, but what's your take on the PS5 if Death Stranding and TLOU2 hit this year?

I was leaning holiday 2019, but Days Gone and Dreams got pushed back to this year, there hasn't been any major leaks, and it's looking like AMD might not have the chips ready for later this year.

All of those combined had me leaning 2020, but I'm in the same boat as you in that I think TLOU2 and DS could *both* hit this year. One hittin...

My guess is if it exists we will hear about it by E3. I hope there is one because I need to buy a new Switch later this year as my old one is going to my younger sibling.

@SerriaGuy

Do you even bother to research things before you post them? The 3.3 for Spiderman in 3 days is worldwide. The 3 million for Smash Bros in 11 days is US only.

There's really no way to reasonably compare the two data points.

We probably won't find out until Nintendo's financial/investor's meeting (or whatever it's called) next week.

Unfortunately NPD doesn't combine the two Pokemon SKUs, so the sales of each version are separate and it won't make for nearly as impressive of headlines.

Though if gen 8 takes the series in an exciting new direction and Detective Pikachu takes off, I can see both SKUs ending up near the top of the charts at the end of next year.

It's possible. However generally a good action game should rely on your quick reflexes to drive he games combat, whereas a turn-based game is dependent on taking the time to think and plan out the best course of action. It's not easy to mesh the two together.

Not that it can't be done. There's good action RPGs. I just find that most action RPGs are either too easy, and the combat doesn't feel like a typical RPG, or they're too difficult and force you...

Yeah, that's the biggest kicker for me. Most Action RPGs allow you to equip stuff, have character customization, have dialogue options, etc . . .

However, when it comes down to it, most action RPGs try to involve strategy by making you change your load-out to better fit different encounters, or by having you use potions that enhance your strength or defenses against certain enemies. Things like that. IMO that's just too much of a hassle and it only breaks up the act...

It's straight up the shining star of Microsoft's entire lineup this generation.

And I'm not saying that to disparage Microsoft's library . . . The past few Forza Horizon games have straight up been stellar games. Racing games a but more niche nowadays, but I would say the Forza Horizon series is like the Legend of Zelda/God of War/Uncharted/Smash Bros/Mario/etc of racing games.

The hilarious thing is even though I didn't think too highly of Bethesda before, it was really Fallout 76, a single game, that completely destroyed their reputation.

I still think they're an okay publisher. Games like Prey, The Evil Within, Doom, and Dishonored all have really delivered. It's too bad Bethesda's been completely messing everything else up lately.

To be fair, the game wasn't officially announced six years ago, it was just a PS4 tech demo at that point. It was later that they announced it as a game.

On the flip side though, the real kicker is the fact that the beta was originally supposed to hit in 2016, and now it's 2019 and they finally rolled out a very small beta with little hubbub and a non-disclosure agreement. Don't know what they were thinking there. This is a game that demands to be shared.

I mean, most AAA games don't offer the same quality or amount of content that Hollow Knight does. If you use indie games as the value comparison for other games then nearly all $60 games lose out to Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight, Stardew Valley, Celeste, Dead Cells, etc . . .

2641d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yeah, a bit easy and the artstyle is really showing its age in some worlds, but overall the game is solid. $60 for the port is a bit much considering it's been available cheaper on Wii U for a long time . . . but you do get a lot of content for the price, so it's not awful. If they'd launched the game at $40 I imagine there would be a lot more excitement for it around the gaming media, but the fact of the matter is the general public will probably buy it whether it's $40 or $6...

Plus Activision had support studios that assisted Bungie with making Destiny content.

I think it will be a good thing for Bungue if they decide to branch out and make something else, but if they keep up focusing on Destiny I can't see it ending well.

2643d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yup, this needed to be *at least* $100 cheaper to make any sort of impact.

2646d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yeah. The story was "eh", but I wish they would make some sort of follow up on that gameplay, even if it was in a different franchise.

2646d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Difference is there's actually some Switch games that you cannot play in handheld only mode, such as Super Mario Party. Every single 3DS game is playable without the 3D.

2646d ago 3 agree3 disagreeView comment

Yeah. Plus IMO I don't see them dropping the detachable controllers so early in the console's life.

Make a Switch that's a bit more powerful and more efficient (for better power life), with a better kickstand and screen, around $300-350 and drop the price of the current one to $250.
